Makayla’s Story
InUnlike most of the Interfaith Dental Clinic’s patients, Makayla’s teeth were
very healthy from practicing good oral
hygiene. However, Makayla suffered
from complex dentofacial growth pattern. Her upper and lower teeth did not meet,
making it difficult to chew, and she could not breath well through her nose.
Unfortunately, the needed treatment costs around $50,000 - a price too steep for Makayla’s family.
“We knew I needed surgery in middle school, but then we found how much it costs and we couldn’t afford it,” says Makayla.
“I would never smile all through high school.”
When she was 20, the surgery and orthodontic treatments were set up, only to be cancelled when Makayla’s TennCare was dropped.
The family was again left without any options.
“My grandpa worked as a maintenance man at Graceworks and they told us about the Interfaith Dental Clinic,’ says Makayla.
A local orthodontist, and a local oral surgeon volunteered to help, and Baptist
Hospital and Anesthesia Medical Group greatly discounted their services for both
operations.
MaKayla finished her treatment last fall and is pleased with the results. “I
smile a lot more now,” says MaKayla.
“I am so excited and thankful.”
