Glenn’s Story

“I didn’t want to see any of my customers.”

“It was tough,” says Glenn when describing his life in September 2005.

Glenn was a single dad with a fourteen-year-old daughter who needed braces, and a cancer-stricken mother who lived with him.   He was struggling to make ends meet, and now he had a painful toothache that wouldn’t go away   - plus a missing front tooth from an accident.

“The toothache was killing me,” says Glenn. “I went to the dentist but all I could afford was antibiotics and pain pills.   Glenn also had a missing front tooth which made his job as a salesman tough. “I became very self-conscious. I didn’t want to go see any of my customers.”

A co-worker told him that she had been helped by the Interfaith Dental Clinic, so Glenn made the call and was accepted into the program.   Glenn’s daughter was also accepted when she had a toothache and is now getting braces through a volunteer orthodontist.

“The big thing is the amount of money it has saved me,” says Glenn.   “I just didn’t have the bucks with my mom sick at my house.   Of course, the health benefits are numerous.

Before I’d floss for the wrong reasons, just when my gums felt bad after eating.   Now I am in pretty good shape and am flossing for the right reasons.   I have learned a lot.

“Now, I don’t have the pains and I don’t have the worries.”
